What is Troy about?
This story was told by Homer in his scripture Odysseus about the siege of Troy by the Greeks and now has been made into an epic film. A timeless story including the Trojan Horse, the most revered warriors in ancient history Achilles and Hector, the desirous and beautiful Helen of Troy and the greatest of all, king of kings Agamemnon. I love ancient history and the battle and fight scenes are thrilling. Must watch motion picture with an ensemble cast, this movie made me want to get into acting. Stars Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Brian Cox, Sean Bean, Brendan Gleeson, Peter O’Toole, Diane Kruger and Rose Byrne.
What is the one thing that motivates me with Troy?
I love how Achilles (Brad Pitt) is willing to die in order to have his name last throughout the ages. He’d rather his legend cemented for eternity than to grow old and have a family. It’s a bit on the extreme side but I like to think I can relate to that in a way. I’d prefer to leave as an accomplished human being than to be an old man who’s achieved zilch. I’d rather die from exhaustion and be celebrated than die from boredom and live in mediocrity.
Who is my favorite character? Why?
This is a tough call but I’m going to go with Achilles although Prince Hector (Eric Bana) deserves acknowledgement here as well. The above answer I think explains why Achilles is my favorite character so I’ll mention why Hector is up there. Hector, unlike Achilles, is an unselfish leader. He inspires through chivalry and self-sacrifice for the greater good of his family, his men and his kingdom.
What this movie’s famous line?
Achilles played by Brad Pitt, said inspiring his men before they storm a beach.
Myrmidons, my brothers of the sword. I would rather fight beside you than any army of thousands. Let no man forget how menacing we are. We are lions! Do you know what’s there, waiting beyond that beach? Immortality! Take it! It’s yours!
What elemental message do I see?
I think there’s a few. But elemental? Think for yourself. Thousands of soldiers are dying because of the greed of a Greek king and the extra-curricular activities of a Trojan prince. Prince Hector who is the most decent and honorable man in the film pays with his life. It is quoted in this movie don’t spend your life following some other fools orders and I believe. Have the courage to say no and follow what you think is right trusting your own instincts.
