This is the true story about Chris Gardner. His wife leaves him, he’s evicted, living in homeless shelters with his son, with no money. His only chance is being able to secure a job with a stock broking firm by doing an internship for six months, that doesn’t pay any salary. What follows is a remarkable and inspirational testament to the human spirit.
Directed by Gabriele Muccino. Starring Will Smith, Jaden Smith and Thandie Newton.
The actual facts:
His son, which was not wife’s child, was much younger in reality than the film.
My favorite line?
Chris Gardner played by Will Smith
“Hey, don’t ever let somebody tell you. You can’t do something. Not even me, all right? You got a dream, you got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you, you can’t do it. If you want something, go get it. Period.”
Why it makes me think, “Damn, got to get moving!”
This man went to hell and back. Then he went to hell and back again. And again. He made it through though in the end. He was smart and hard working. But I don’t think that’s what made him successful. There are a ton of hardworking, smart people out there who would have died if they had been in Chris Gardner’s boots. What separated him from the rest? He never gave up. I would have. The first half of this movie was awful for him and I would have caved there. But he didn’t. He had his son to take care of and nothing was going to stop him from his goal. He never gave up. And after watching this, neither will I.
How many times have I watched it?
