Sean Penn is an unbelievable actor and I have so much respect for his abilities. I remember watching the special features disc for the film Mystic River and hearing the actress Laura Linney say that nobody works as hard or puts in the amount of time that Sean Penn does. Penn has won two Best Actor Academy Awards, one being for his role in this film Milk. Anyway, for the plot. A middle-aged homosexual man Harvey Milk moves to San Francisco from New York and starts the ball rolling for gay rights. He’s eventually elected as a district politician, one of the first openly gay politicians in the country, and campaigns tirelessly for equal opportunities. His charisma, contributions and fate cemented him as an inspiration to millions.
The actual facts:
I couldn’t find much about whether this movie deviated from actual events too much or not. I always take that as the film didn’t. If it did, however. let me know. I’d like to find out. Cheers.
My favorite line?
Harvey Milk played by Sean Penn.
“Forty years old and I haven’t done a thing that I’m proud of.”
Why it makes me think, “Damn, got to get moving!”
This film doesn’t necessarily make me get moving but it does provide me with some comfort. My favorite quote in the film is above. I like this because from the time he was 40 to 8 years later, he became a national hero and leader. It just shows that there is always time. I have a bad habit of wanting the rewards from my work now; I’m impatient so this movie teaches me something else. It teaches me restraint and diligence in what I do, in that there is no rush. Harvey Milk didn’t start till he was 40. Check out the clip to the right.
How many times have I watched it?
