What is the Transformers franchise about?

Transformers in BeijingAlien robots that come to earth.  Both good (Autobots) and bad (Decepticons) ones, both defend the human race or try to end it.  They’re bio-mechanical giants that fire bullets, rockets and bombs and have destroyed their own planet with their never-ending war.  On Earth, they team up with various humans throughout the franchise to avoid some apocalyptic event on our planet.

Directed by Michael Bay.

Starring Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Rachel Taylor, Rose Huntington-Whitely, Nicola Peltz, Frances McDormand, Bernie Mac, Ramon Rodriguez, Kelsey Grammar, Jon Voight, Josh Duhamel, Patrick Dempsey, Jack Reynor, Glenn Morshower, Stanley Tucci, John Malkovich, Ken Jeong, T.J. Miller Tyrese Gibson, Kevin Dunn, Titus Welliver and John Turturro.

Voices by Hugo Weaving, Peter Cullen, John Goodman, Ken Watanabe, Leonard Nimoy, John DiMaggio, Tony Todd, and Frank Welker.

How come I think it’s great?

Who doesn’t like transformers?  As a kid I was glued to the TV watching the cartoons.  I went to the cinemas to watch something else and when I saw this teaser trailer, I just about jizzed in my pants.  I love Michael Bay films.  They are always a good mix drama, comedy and action with an inexhaustable  amount of explosions.

Why is it boycotted?

Critics have something against Michael Bay.  I think his films are well suited for blokes (men) like me.  Every now and then we want to watch a film that is far fetched, have some laughs, see some incredible action sequences, feel a little bit inspired and then talk about how awesome the film was later.  Michael Bay does this, for example Bad Boys II, Pain and Gain, The Rock, Pearl Harbor and Armageddon.   I’ve watched all those films repeatedly.

I like movies that critics hate and vice versa.  Personally, critics take themselves too seriously.  It’s easy for them to judge something they can’t do, they’re usually actors or directors who never made it.

What is the general message that it sends?

Courage and bravery.  The Autobots are the proper morally upright beings that we should all aim to be.  I know that Michael Bay directing Transformersdoesn’t make sense since their alien robots.  But Optimus Prime fights for and protects everybody’s freedom, human or not.  I like watching the scenes with Optimus because not only does he dish out punishment but he’s sentient in when it is the right thing to do or not.  He’s no problem executing Decepticons that are hell bent on death or destruction.  All the while risking his own neck against formidable odds.

What is Transformers about?

The first film of the franchise.  An adolescent Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) unknowlingly is connected to the Transformers’ soon arrival by his ancestor who once found a Transformer relic (the All Spark) on an Arctic expedition.  And in turn, is a being hunted by the Deceptions and is saved by his bodyguard Transformer Bumblebee.  The plot thickens when the Autobots arrive.  The U.S. Government is already aware of the Transformers existence so begins are battle between humans and alien robot for the All Spark.

What was the best scene?  And what does it accomplish?Transformers Bumblebee

The scenes with Optimus.  Since this movie was the first and I never thought there was going to be sequels.  I relished every scene with the big man.

What is the best line?

Optimus Prime voiced by Peter Cullen

“With the All Spark gone, we cannot return life to our planet.  And fate has yielded its reward: a new world to call home.  We live among its people now, hiding in plain sight, but watching over them in secret, waiting, protecting.  I have witnessed their capacity for courage, and though we are worlds apart, like us, there’s more to them than meets the eye.  I am Optimus Prime, and I send this message to any surviving Autobots taking refuge among the stars.  We are here.  We are waiting.”

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

What is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen about?Megan Fox-and Shia Labeouf Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

The second film in the franchise.  As it turned, the alien robot race of Transformers had already been to planet Earth thousands of years ago.  They were travelling the galaxies looking suns to harvest and ours seemed alright.  The whole movie is centered around the Decepticons aiding an ancient Transformer who wishes to destroy our sun.  And the Autobots trying to stop them.

Humans help as well.  Basically that’s it but it’s my favorite out of the franchise and for some reason it’s the film critics roast the most.

Oh yeah, Megan Fox is scorching in this film too.

What was the best scene?  And what does it accomplish?

The scenes where Optimus Prime fights Megatron and his minions in the forrest protecting Sam.  Pure example of courage under fire, and self sacrifce for the greater good.  I get chills whenever I watch this scene because, even though he’s outnumbered, Optimus is man handling the Decepticons.  And it’s only when his back his turned do they get the better of him.

What is the best line?

The Primes.  When they talk to Sam as he is about to die, they come to him and it seems push him away form the light.

“Sam, we have been watching you for a long, long time.  You have fought for Optimus, our last descendant, with courage and sacrifice, the qualities of a leader.  A leader worthy of our secret.  The Matrix of Leadership cannot be found, it must be earned.  Return now to Optimus.  Merge the Matrix with his spark. It was, and has always been, your destiny.”

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

What is Transformers:  Dark of the Moon about?Megatron Transformers: Dark of the Moon

The third film in the franchise.  As it turned, a highly select few from the U.S. Government had already known about the existence of Transformers since the 1960s.  That’s what the whole space race back then was about.  An Autobot spacecraft is recovered from our moon and along with it a Transformer weapon and Sentinel Prime, the Autobots leader before Optimus.  This time the Decepticons are trying to steal this weapon to teleport Cybertron (Transformers home planet) to our atmosphere and make humans their slaves to rebuild it.  Again, the Autobots have to stop them.  Humans help as well.  Chicago gets banged up.

What was the best scene?  And what does it accomplish?

At the end of the film where Optimus Prime after defeating Sentinel Prime doesn’t waste any time executing him.  I’m sick of the good guys in film letting the bad guys live after the bad guys have been more evil than the sock thief (have you noticed only one sock always goes missing?).  In the sense of the film I suppose it accomplishes not having to deal with the evil doer again.  But for me?  Just pure satisfaction.

What is the best line?

Optimus Prime played by Peter Cullen.

“In any war, there are calms between the storms. There will be days when we lose faith, days when our allies turn against us. But the day will never come, that we forsake this planet and its people.”

Transformers: Age of Extinction

What is Transformers:  Age of Extinction about?

The fourth film of the franchise and pretty much a semi-reboot set five years of the events of the previous Transformers: Dark of the Moon.  It’s still breathtaking stuff though.  A man stumbles across a beaten and broken Optimus Prime and repairs him.  Only to be thrown into turmoil.  Turns out the humans are now hunting down every Transformer good or bad and killing them with the help of a new bounty hunter Transformer Lockdown.  Humans are making their own Transformers now.  Mmmm.  This one is hard to expalin without giving too much away.  So, just trust me it’s good.  Watch it.

What was the best scene?  And what does it accomplish?

The scenes where Optimus subdues and tames the Dinobots.  He just puts those gigantic, scary-ass, dinosaur-looking, alien robots into submission, just made them all his bitch.  Then like an absolute boss has the hide to jump on the T-Rex lokking one and rides him.  I love Optimus.

What is the best line?Galvatron Transformers Age of Extinction

Cade Yeager played by Mark Wahlberg.

“What do you think being human means?  That’s what we do.  We make mistakes.  Sometimes, out of those mistakes come the most amazing things.  When I fixed you, it was for a reward.  That was it.  That was why.  The money.  And it was me making a mistake.  Without it, you wouldn’t be here.  So even if you got no faith in us, I’m asking you to do what I do.  I’m asking you to look at all the junk and see the treasure.  You gotta have faith, Prime, in who we can be.”

  1. I loved the Transformers movies! I really loved seeing Optimus on the big screen and the transforming visuals where off the charts especially the first time in the first movie!!! I was completely blown away!

I totally understand why you picked those quotes and your best scenes I agree with. Also, my favorite out of the four is the last one because I felt it had more of a plot and was the darkest of all the movies plus Mark Wahlberg’s performance was awesome!
