I knew I needed a type of connector but which one? Turns out it was the Apple iPad to HDMI cable adapter. I desperately wanted to watch, on the 55 inch TV we’ve got, The Lincoln Lawyer starring Matthew McConaughey. By the way, congrats on the Oscar there too buddy. My favorite scene is where he’s being chauffeured down the freeway and the bikies pull him up in that sick black Lincoln. It looks like he is about to be shook down but in the end they end up giving him $10,000!
I thought Ryan Phillipe was excellent in this too, he had the crazy, smart thing working really well. All in all though I’m a big Matt Mc fan and when I get in the frame of mind where I want to watch something, there isn’t much else I can think about.
But for the life of me, with all the cords I’ve got, I couldn’t get it connected up without fussing about and using the laptop I’ve got as well. It was a set up and half, involving a laptop, an iPad, the TV and bunch of cords, you could imagine.
What to do?
It’s amazing these days with all the technology and gizmos we have and still we can get in a jam pretty quick without a tiny component. Thankfully, there is an Apple shop a short tram ride from where I live so I hastily remedied the situation.
However, it dawned on me this would happen a fair amount of times to a fair amount of people across the board. So I’ve decided to discuss what’s needed in this situation, where to get it from and the costs involved in fixing a kerfuffle like this.
So the obvious things are TV, iPad, and a movie on the iPad. There are a few suggestions bouncing around this website for movie ideas if you’re getting stuck there. Next comes the HDMI cable which stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI is the only serious way to connect this sort of thing these days. It’s all about quality and speed.
Now for the adapter. I use a Lightning Digital AV Adapter, compatible with an iPad 5 to any HDMI cable.
Product: Lightning Digital AV Adapter
Cheapest Place to Buy: Amazon.com
Guarantee: 1 year
My Rating: 9.5/10
So I’ll go into a bit more detail. It is a genuine Apple product. This product transfers sound. It will work with iPhone 5 and will play games and the like. The iPad/iPhone will be charged while play audio and video. It works with Netflix. Works with iPhone 6 and anything with Lightning cable. It’s not actual tethering apparently but just an audio and video transfer to a TV. And it can be used to power a projector
I personally found that although it does charge the accessory, it’s quite slow. TV must have a HDMI port, no exceptions. Reviews suggest it doesn’t work with Amazon Prime. Complaints about the cable being too short. And will not play Verizon NFL mobile. This is a bit of a deal breaker but I’ll mention it anyway, some people have only used this product for 4 – 6 months before it deciding not to work anymore. I’ll have to get back to you on that one personally since I just got mine.

I got this adapter and tore it out of the packaging. I finally got to see the bikie scene with an added bonus watching Marissa Tomei be her sexy lawyer self. Woah so anyway! As soon as I connected it up I was away, everything worked fine. I didn’t even many check product reviews (which I probably should have, I’m a bit like that). I checked out the bad ones, and there were a few downers so I’ll mention the main ones. I feel the need to include the bad sides to to help out my fellow movie buffs. After buying this product though, I did find the product reviews were really heavily biased towards the positive side.
Well, I leave you to make your mind up but I watched The Lincoln Lawyer and I’m one satisfied man with the iPad to HDMI adapter!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post. Feel free to leave a comment, what did you think?
